Georg Nikol Troeger was born on 24 Nov 1796 in Neudorf-Schauenstein, Bavaria. He was baptized on 26 Nov 1796. Sponsor: Georg Nikol Volkl, farmer, Eastwirt, Neudorf. He emigrated in 1847 from Bavaria, Germany. He died on 9 Nov 1876 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH. He was buried in St.Stephen Luth Cem.(old), Defiance Co, OH. In Germany, George Nicholas was a farmer and a weaver. In preparation for the trip to America, he sold his farm at No. 1 Neudorf (near Schauenstein in Bavaria) on 18 Dec, 1846. The family, including George and seven children, made their way to Hamburg in the spring of 1847 to board a sailing ship for the journey across the Atlantic. At Hamburg, the baby, less than a year old, became sick and could not be taken on board the ship. So John Elias and Margaret stayed with the baby while George and the four younger children boarded the ship. They arrived in New York in July then proceeded to Buffalo where the stayed at the home of Henry Beyer. Meanwile the baby died in Hamburg and the two older children continued their journey, arriving in New York in August. George Nicholas traveled west to look for land in Wisconsin. On the way he stopped to visit the Greenlers near Defiance, Ohio, liked the land there and made his first land purchase on 18 Aug, 1847. On arrival back in Buffalo, he learned Katharine had decided to marry Henry Beyer and remain in Buffalo. The remainder of the family then traveled to and settled on the 'South Ridge' near Defiance, Ohio.

He was married to Margaretha Strobel (daughter of Johann Adam Strobel and Anna Maria Fraas) on 3 Jun 1824 in Schauenstein, Oberfranken, Bavaria. Margaretha Strobel was born on 26 Nov 1803 in Lipperts-Leupoldsgruen, Bavaria. She was baptized on 28 Nov 1803. Sponsor: Margaretha, wife of Johann Georg Fraas of Muhldorf. He established a bakery on Genesee Street in Buffalo where he worked until he retired in 1871. He became an American citizen in 1851.
